Las Palmas - 18.11.2008 - According to local media, the renewable energy tree will cost 43,000 euros to put up and an even higher sum to cover the structure and operating costs over the month-long period the tree will stand in St Anne's Square. The disclosure at the week-end that the contract for the design and maintenance of the Christmas Tree had been awarded to a team of researchers led by the husband of a city councillor led to immediate calls for the project to be scrapped.
